French president Jacques Chirac, expressed his concern for Ingrid Betancourt
February 11 2005

The French president, Jacques Chirac, expressed to his Colombian colleague, Alvaro Uribe, his concern for the Franco- Colombian Ingrid Betancourt', kidnapped by the illegal armed group FARC.

Last month, the French president received in the Ellysée the hostage's mother and sister who said that in accordance to recent declarations of the guerrilla bosses,Ingrid is in good health.

Chirac and Uribe evoked the recent Meeting of Coordination and International Cooperation in Cartagena where Uribe spoke. The meeting congregated representatives of about 30 countries and organizations
as the European Union, the United Nations, the World Bank and the Inter American Bank of Development.

The declarations that Uribe made in regards to a humanitarian agreement and on a bill that refers to the demobilization of the paramilitaries, are "a positive development" according to Chirac.
The French president encouraged his Colombian colleague to continue ahead, the spokesman added.

On the ongoing process of peace with the AUC for their demobilization, Uribe announced in Cartagena the calendar of the parliamentary procedure of a legal frame "believable, balanced and universal" that excludes "as much the submission as the impunity" and
that is clear concerning the reparation to the victims.

France has declared repeatedly its willingness to facilitate a humanitarian agreement for which the FARCs would liberate the hostages in exchange of setting free or part of their guerillas fighters.
Uribe that should have been in Paris to attend a European tour, canceled the trip due to health problems, telephoned Chirac, who expressed his desire to have Uribe visit him in Europe "as soon as posible".
