ELECTIONS
IN COLOMBIA / 2003
October 29, 2003
The results of the elections
that were carried out in Colombia on October, Sunday 26, made evident
that the Oxygen Green Party keeps working effectively, in spite of
the difficult situation it has been undergoing for the last 20 months
when her leader, the presidential ex-candidate Ingrid Betancourt,
was kidnapped by the FARC.
The Party supported the candidate of the Independent Democratic ,
Luis Eduardo Garzón, who was elected First Mayor of Bogotá,
turning itself in the first representative of the left to occupy this
position, considered the second in importance in the Nation.
In addition, in the name of the Oxygen Green Party, Jorge Diego Ospina
Rodriguez was chosen as Mayor of the Municipality of Uribe, in the
Department of Meta, that was part of the zone of distention that served
as base to the dialogues of peace between the former President of
the Republic and the FARC.
In the places where the Oxygen Green Party had a presence, eight Councilmen
were chosen: Barranquilla (Atlántico), Villavicencio (Meta),
Sergio Cruz Zapata, Gustavo de Ossa Vélez, Sativasur (Boyaca),
Lorica (Córdoba), Bartolo Antonio Negrete Hernández,
Florencia (Caquetá), César Augusto Trujillo Barreto,
and in Pamplona (North of Santander) 3 councilmen, Gustavo Villamizar,
Victor Manuel Rivera, Omar Luna, and thanks for the 15000 votes in
the list of the Council of Bogotá.
The Oxygen Green Party wants to thank the international community
for their continued support, and the Colombian voters who are allowing
the principles promoted and defended by Ingrid Betancourt, to continue
being listened in various zones of the country.
The Party under the direction of Juan Carlos Lecompte, husband of
Ingrid Betancourt, will follow its activity until she is released
and can follow ahead with her project.
